3 selected for Fine Gael in Boyle
Three Fine Gael candidates have been selected to run in the new Boyle electoral area in this May’s local elections.
The three are sitting Councillors Gerry Garvey and Liam Callaghan and former Councillor Charlie Hopkins.
This means Boyle will not now have a Fine Gael Councillor from the town.
Maura Hopkins, a Fine Gael activist who is presently in Australia, had indicated her interest in convention, but she withdrew her name prior to the event.
There was speculation in Boyle that a family member of a sitting Councillor would go forward but this did not materialise.
Over 120 people attended the Convention, which was held in the Bothar Rua, Elphin on Friday night and was chaired by MEP Jim Higgins.
